Project Goals:

This is a non-commercial venture and purely voluntary. It also fully protects your confidentiality. Depending upon the extent of participation, Worden researchers everywhere will benefit from the addition of 21st century methodology to traditional genealogical research.

What is involved? To fully participate in the study, a pedigree and a DNA sample (a simple swab of the cheek) are required from a male with the surname Worden (or similar). So Ladies, please encourage your father, brother or male cousin to participate. There is no need to test more than one brother or first cousin. We want to compare different lines.

There is a cost for the actual DNA testing, but it is the lowest available because you will be participating in a project. And there are no additional costs.

With or without full participation, we ask that you submit a pedigree starting with your earliest Worden ancestor down to your last non-living ancestor in the paternal line. This pedigree should show birth dates and places and spouses' names, or as much as is known. You may submit your pedigree by sending it to doriswheeler@bellsouth.net.

Project News:

Item: A family member has anonymously donated a sum of money to encourage participation in the ongoing Worden Surname Project. The money will be used to fund sponsorships of $50, $75 or $100 for those who may provide critical and missing links. Please go to http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/w/worden for details on our sponsorship project.

Since the cost of testing is the major deterrent to participation in any DNA project, a fund has been established to which anyone may contribute -- attaching any strings you specify. Anyone who wishes to encourage participation by others who may be eligible for this project or who wishes to sponsor another person to be tested is invited to contribute in one of these two ways:

a. You may order a test for a specific person to be tested and may charge it to your credit card or request an invoice to accompany the test. Anyone may pay the invoice; or

b. You may send a donation in any amount of $25 or more to be added to the General Fund for the Worden DNA Project. Simply follow this link: http://www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html. Or contact the project administrator doriswheeler@bellsouth.net to specify how you want the money disbursed.

More results still to come! Join us so we can analyze your results against others and attempt to break down your brick walls and define your lineage genetically.

Remember! Each person who is tested represents his entire line, not just his immediate family, so large numbers of testees are not required. Test participants often enlist the help of family members to pay all or part of the cost of the test. The hope is to have distant cousins, persons with similar spellings and those whose origins can be traced to different parts of the world participate.
