WARE Surname DNA Project Background

The WARE DNAProject welcomes all WARE family members and others with Y-DNAor Family Finder results which match participating WARE FamilyMembers. Thank you for making the decision to join today! 

Participating is an opportunity to uncover information not provided in the paper records, which will help with your research of your family tree. We will also discover which family trees are related. As the project progresses, it is envisaged the results for the various family trees will provide information on the evolution of the surname.

The primary scope of the project is based on testing Y-DNA for uncovering your WARE surname genealogy. This is both Y-DNA STR testing and the deeper ancestral (SNP) test to precisely determine your Y-DNA haplogroup. If you believe there is a WARE in your direct male line, although you have a different surname, you are also welcome to participate. If you are female, you will need to find a direct line male in your family tree to test and and represent your tree. 

We do encourage our members to do other DNA testing, such as mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and autosomal DNA(FamilyFinder). Your Family Finder results are compared with other FamilyFinder results of both females and males in the database. The results are automatically displayed in the Family Finder matches on your personal FTDNA page but not on the WARE surname project.

Project Administrators are volunteers who are interested in WARE genealogy and in using DNA to help solve genealogy problems. The only benefit we derive from our service is the satisfaction that we have helped provide an infrastructure by which you might extend your genealogy. We do not work for FamilyTreeDNA and have no special access or control over their operations. 

When you need to email the Project Administrator, please use the email address bware752@gmail.com. This email address will get you a response more rapidly as the email is forwarded to all of the administrators. Project Administrators are the right persons to ask first if you have Project or DNA related questions. 

The WARE surname project previously used RootsWeb for discussion. That site is undergoing revisions, so we are not linking to it at this time.

We encourage males who order a Y-DNA test to order 37 or 67 markers at first. We encourage you to ask your FTDNA Ware surnamed yDNA matches at 0 to 2 genetic difference to join the Ware Project so that we can grow the groupings.

Gedcom. All WARE members are encouraged to upload a gedcom file of their ancestral lines via their personal FTDNA page. This will enable people with matching DNA to view each other genealogies.
