The Velten y-DNA Project project is open to anyone with the surname Velten or any of its spelling variations: Velten, Velton, Veltin, Felten, Felton (and others, please contact administrator).

The Velten surname is a Saint's name, the Germanic version of the Latin name Valentine. It is believed the name originated in Europe, but through centuries of emigration, persons bearing the Velten name are found around the world, in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Australia and elsewhere. Felten is a phonetic spelling variation of the name, F and V sounding similar in German. The Veltin spelling occurs in France, and the Velton spelling occurs frequently in the United States.
