Project Background:

This site is meant to be a repository for Tyner/Tiner DNA participants to house their test results. By using this library, researchers who formerly accessed traditional paper trails may find new ones from these DNA reports. A quick glance at the chart (below) will make it easy for researchers to discover possible matches. Let the brick walls crumble!

Project Goals:

We have met the first goal of 10 members. In fact, we now have 18 test kits back from 21 members. Many participants have found surprising new information in their ancestry. Let's keep this information rolling in. Should our next goal be to double our baseline?

How about 50 participants?

1. Provide DNA evidence that could forge links with previously unknown cousins.
2. Knock down brick walls that have stymied research on paper trails. Amen!
3. Open up new avenues of research.
4. Rekindle interest among some researchers who have been fatigued by years of frustration.
5. Provide clues for researchers looking for distant ancestral origins.
6. Participate in the world wide search.

Project News:

We have our first Tiner participant and another may also soon join the Project! This is very encouraging and will doubtless fascinate that large group of Tyner/Tiners. Here are the Tyner Project Website results, copy and paste them into your browser and make them a "favorite".

In the first week of October results from the DSNP-1 "Deep Clade" (regional/tribal) test came back and pointed two of us to our ancestral home in Northern France. It could be that two more will join this regional subgroup as they are closely related to the other two.

Project Results:

Early returns point toward a Northern European ancestry. More results are in the pipeline and will soon be released. As of February 2006 there appear to be several distinct Tyner/Tiner lines that have developed from the current results. Three participants connect with the Tyner/Harris line of Sarah Tyner and John Harris. Several members have unique Tyner DNA and two of us from the Ohio Tyner line are 4th cousins. The new kits being returned will undoubtably increase our knowledge and there is always the chance of serendipity!

One of the fun things to do with your test results is to troll around "Y-Search" where all of the DNA participants throughout the world are invited to upload their markers. You can search for close relations from this giant pool of participants.

There is a mtdna participant and she was the first in the Tyner Project. Recent news on her behalf: "An HVR1 match has been found between one of the members from your
Tyner group, and another person(s) in the Family Tree DNA database. Matches of the mtDNA have more Anthropological significance as the time
frame for a common ancestor could go beyond the Genealogical time frame."
