Project Background
Welcome. The R1b and Subclades Haplogroup Project was formed to gather data and learn more about the R1b and Subclades Haplogroups. To assist participants in finding their haplotype data in the tables and similar haplotypes the haplotype data is displayed in this project in various ways including sorting by kit number and haplogroup. Various statistics for the data tables are also provided such as DYS marker allele min, max, and modal values. For how to join scroll down. The R1b yDNA Haplogroup Project is for any male's FTDNA test result who shares the major yDNA haplogroup of R1b ... and/or any of its subclades. See examples of subclades of R1b listed above. You can join this haplogroup project if you have been tested by FamilyTreeDNA and have been designated by FTDNA as being R1b by being YSNP tested as R1b, or have been extended, deep subclade YSNP tested as being in one of the R1b haplogroup subclades, or you have been reliably predicted with high confidence to be R1b per your YSTR haplotype test. And if by prediction or suggestion, as long as the predicted or suggested haplogroup (HG) was clearly unambiguous for your haplotype (HT) matches with your 12/12, 11/12, 10/12, and 9/12 comparison of your YSTR12 haplotype to other YSNP verified R1b or subclade haplotypes, you can join. If you have not been YSNP tested and thus not YSNP confirmed to be R1b, check the haplogroup tab in your FTDNA personal account to be sure that you have no 12/12 exact matches reported with any other major non-R1b haplogroups and that no other major haplogroup but R1b or a subclade is being suggested as an alternative to R1b in your 12/12, 11/12, 10/12, and 9/12 comparisons of your YSTR haplotype to known and proven YSNP'd haplotypes. Existing FTDNA customers can conveniently join this project using the blue JOIN button at the top of their personal FTDNA test results home page. See detailed how to join procedures below.
Attention current members of this project: Be sure to fill in your direct paternal line "Earliest Known Ancestor" field in the "User Preferences" section of your personal account page at FamilyTreeDNA otherwise a blank will display for that field in your entry.

HOW TO JOIN THIS PROJECT: At this time you must have been tested either directly via FTDNA or indirectly via FTDNA via the NGS Genographic Project to join this project. Genographic Project customers must first do the free transfer of their results from the NGS database to FTDNA's database. See the "Learn More" link at the bottom of your Genographic Project personal page for how to do the free transfer of your test data to FTDNA or call FTDNA for assistance in doing the transfer. Once you have a personal account page at FTDNA, to join this R1b project sign/log in to your FTDNA personal account page and click on the blue JOIN button in the upper part of your personal page screen. On the projects page, scroll down and find the Y Haplogroup Projects section. Click on the R backbone haplogroup category. Then click on the R1b and Subclades project link. You will then see a description of this project. Scroll down to the bottom and click on the small join button at the bottom of the R1b project description and join page. That is all there is to it. Also, be sure to fill in your direct paternal line "Earliest Known Ancestor" field in the "User Preferences" section of your personal account page at FamilyTreeDNA otherwise a blank will display for that field in your entry. If you don't know the full name and details about your direct paternal line earliest known ancestor you could simply enter the surname of your direct paternal line earliest known ancestor in that field. Note to family groups: Only one representative member of a related family group or cluster should be joined to this project. Project Admins should not join whole groups of related individuals with nearly matching haplotypes since if done so in large numbers it could bias/skew the data analysis in this project. Thank you. If you have never been tested before either by FTDNA or the Genographic Project and want to be tested you need to order a YDNA test kit. Click on this link to learn more about how to order a YDNA test kit from FamilyTreeDNA: How to Order a YDNA Test Kit from FamilyTreeDNA
Attention Data Miners: I have spent many, many hours seeking participants to collect the data, organizing the groups, and sorting this data in the various tables presented in this project's Results section. If you use data from this source, or use this project as a source for leads to join your projects, please acknowledge and credit your source -- Kerchner's R1b and Subclades YDNA Haplogroup Project. Thank you.
