Project Background:

This project was launched by Patricia Greber some two or more years ago. She coerced Bill and Jim into joining her in the task of management and we've been on a roll ever since.

The project continues to grow and we have very clear family groupings developing. The dna technology is also providing insight into our relations with other clans and tribes and the written history of each clan. For instance, recent developments now suggest that as many as half of the males carrying a particular surname don't descend from that line. Rather they may have adopted the name of the tribal chieftain at the time surnames were adopted. That's one reason that it's better to go with 25 markers as the 12 marker test will only show that you were related in a general sense.

The new deep clade tests are delving more deeply into the R1b haplotype, revealing various tribal distinctions.

Project Goals:

To identify all septs of McMahon in order to enable those of us who no longer live in our homeland to:

1) identify which line of McMahon or Mahon we descend from, and

2)identfiy others to whom we are related.

Project News:

We're encouraging members to upgrade to the 59 marker test. In any case we suggest you not sign up for less than 25 markers.

We've also joined the Irish Heritage Project so new members should join that project from their member page.

Each of you can expand your matches by also joining the R1b Project and by uploading your markers to YSearch.

We continue to seek known Thomond MacMahons and all manner of the smaller Mahon septs.
