LANE Y-Chromosome DNA Surname Project
Group Administrator: Phyllis Brandon And Francie Lane phyllisbrandon@knology.net

Project Surnames:
LAINLAINELANELAYNE

Group General Fund:
03/23/07 - Fred Lane donation....$50
03/23/07 - Total available....$50

Project Background:
While a surname itself may give us incomplete or misleading or, at best, only general information about the origin of a family, DNA-testing can give us concrete evidence for identifying and separating family lines. Y-chromosome DNA testing is especially helpful because the male Y-chromosome is handed down, father to son, unchanged through the generations, except for rare mutations which, in themselves, can be helpful indicators of branching. The accessibility and affordability of family DNA testing is doubtless the greatest technical advance in the history of genealogical research because -- at long, long last -- we have a tool to break down those brick walls!

Project Goals:
The goal of the LANE Surname Project is to distinguish between LANE ancestral lines, worldwide. Any reasonable spelling variant is included (LANE, LAIN, LAINE, LAYNE.)

Also please note that, to participate meaningfully, you will need to provide and share your male direct-line ancestry. Your personal information, including living ancestors, will not be made public.

Project News:
May 2, 2008 - We have a total of 56 members and 51 results back. Of the 5 remaining kits, 1 is being processed and the results due soon. Hopefully, the remaining four kits will eventually be returned for analysis.

July 19, 2007 - Results updated. We have a new matching set, kits N45466 and 21478!

June 8, 2007 - We now have 42 members and 40 kits have been returned. All but one of those kits has been processed and the results posted. In about 6 - 8 weeks, we will have those results.

We hope the two outstanding kits will be returned to the lab to be processed.

February 11, 2006 - Updated Results! We are at 18 members strong! We now have a new matching group of 2 with LANE and LAYNE surnames.

January 29, 2006 - Updated results! We now have 16 Lane/Layne participants, but we could use more of those with these surnames to join us in our study!

November 2, 2005 - We now have 2 matching sets of Lane/Layne and two unmatching Lanes. We need more Lanes!

23 April 2005 - Our first matching results!!!! Descendants of Endymion Lane, b. 1796; and Richard Lane, b. 1796, d. 3 June 1871 Mason Co., IL match 12/12!

16 January 2005 - New Project Administrator
8 Dec 2004 - as of this date, three LANEs have joined the project, and we have results for all three.

22 Sep 2004 - the LANE Surname Project was announced.

Project Results:
May 2, 2008 - The results chart has been periodically updated since July, 2007 with the newer results.

DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members

* Haplogroups in green have been confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider ordering a SNP confirmation test.
