Project Background

Hello,
My name is William Pollard Garrison and I have been watching the Garrison Message Boards for a few years now. Posting info has even helped me to meet Family I never knew existed. That is how I met my Cousin Mary Ellen who is my co-administrator of this DNA Project. She is by far the better Genealogist and has helped me a great deal in learning more about my ancestors. Like so many others we have come to a stand still because of the lack of written information and or public records for our family line. Well! to make a long story short, None of us are getting any younger and I for one would like to learn as much as I can about my ancestors. Who were they and where did they come from. The Y chromosome is passed from father to son unchanged, except for a mutation about every 500 generations. Testing the Y chromosome will provide us with a genetic finger print consisting of 12,25 or 37 numbers. By comparing this finger print to others with our surname, we can determine if we are related. THIS IS A MALE ONLY TEST

My cousin, Mary Ellen and I have traced our ancestors back to Jason Garrison who was born in New Jersey and Married Mary Thompson there and served in the Stoe Creek militia there. Later moving to Ohio via New York with his family. A son, William stayed in Ohio and married Cynthia Pollard. Ephraim moved west to Iowa and then on to the Oregon Territory. William and Cynthia who had sons William Pollard Garrison I and John Thompson Garrison. William and John remained in Ohio. My line continues through William and Mary Ellens continues through John. William married Rebecca Williams and they had several children. One of them being Edward or Edwin Garrison who married Mary Catherine Chamberlain. These are my Great Grandparents. Edward and Mary had several children one of which was my Grandfather, William Pollard Garrison II. My grandfather married Hellen Fulks and they had 4 children, a boy and three girls. My father was the boy, Charles E. Garrison and he married Betty Kelley. They had three living children, two boys and a girl and I am the Oldest, William Pollard Garrison III. My cousin Mary Ellen and I are looking for parents and/or siblings of Jason. That is the reason I started this project. We have come to a wall in our searching and are hoping that this new technology will help us find where to go from here.

Kit # 44767 - I recieved information about the line associated with this kit and permission to post it here.

Kit # 44767 - Updated information.
With the recent disovery of the following:

MF #10120001, Pg. 131, Volume A
Trust Deeds - DeKalb Co. TN 1869-1897

Obediah M. Garrison of Wayne Co., MO.
Power of Atty to: E. J. Bratten of
DeKalb Co., TN., father: Joel M. Garrison

Obediah M. Garrison guardian Mary E. Garrison
(minor/sister) 12 October 1870.

This is confirming that Mary E. Garrison as shown in the 8/29/1860 census of Stoddard County, MO as the daughter of Joel M Garrison is the sister of Obadiah Garrison in that same census as well as that of the 7/28/1870 census for Wayne County, MO who is granting custody of his sister to his father Joel's brother in law Elijah J Bratten, who is the husband of Obadiah's Aunt and his father Joel's sister, Elizabeth Matilda who of course, is the Daughter of Obadiah M Garrison of DeKalb County, Tennessee.

Therefor I am able to confirm the following lineage:

Kit # 68109 Info:

Father/Uncles: Robert Melvin Garrison b. 3/7/1915 @ Buffalo, Erie Co.

GF: Grover Cleveland Garrison b. 01/30/1888 @ Shickshinny, Luzerne Co.

Benjamin); m. 12/23/1912 to Jennie Pearl Shoop b. 1892; d. 07/22/1964 @
St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co. FL

GGF: Elmer Ellsworth Garrison b. 08/12/1864 @ Shickshinny, Luzerne Co.
PA (his siblings were Francis Marion, Abby Jayne, Adrian Ambrose,
William); m. date? to Marilla Jane Titus b. 08/1866; d. 1932 location?
buried Pine Hill Cemetery @ Shickshinny, Luzerne Co. PA

GGGF: Ambrose N. Garrison b. 10/14/1832 @ Salem Twp, Luzerne Co. PA; m.
2/21/1856 to Mary Lutz; d. 09/01/1884; Ambrose and Mary buried in Pine
Hill Cemetery @ Shickshinny, Luzerne Co. PA. (birth dates acquired from
Civil War pension records and vary somewhat from those suggested in
mid-late 1800's census records)

And there's our brick wall. Census records suggest that Ambrose's
parents were born in PA as well, but we haven't found any further trace.
Hopefully we can find some sort of trail through the DNA testing. None
of us understands the test very well other than we are trying to match
markers with someone who has lineage traced back further than we do, so
any help interpreting the results will be appreciated. Thanks so much
and we look forward to seeing our results!

I will be happy to post this kind of information for any other members of this group if you will send it to me and state in the e-mail that you want me to post the info here.
