The Cornwell DNA & Ancestry Project began in 2004. We currently have 58 participants. The project is open to all participants who have the Cornwell surname or a variation. [When we refer to Cornwell, we are including all variations].
The project is a Y-chromosome DNA surname study. The Y-chromosome only exists in males. It is passed from fathers to sons virtually unchanged for generations. Therefore, to “directly” participate you must be male and either (1) carry the Cornwell surname or a variation of it or (2) descend directly in an unbroken paternal (male-to-male) line from a Cornwell male and you MUST share your direct Cornwell lineage. Reviewing the submitted lineages in conjunction with the DNA results makes a more comprehensive interpretation.
Ladies are extremely valuable to our project. Since they can not directly participate, they can represent their lineages “indirectly” by locating a male relative who fits the requirements, mentioned earlier, to participate in the DNA project. They can provide addition research need to support member's lineages or donate to help cover the cost of the DNA testing. A general fund has been established to assist in costs. We recommend the Y-DNA37 (37 markers) or Y-DNA67 tests. But if the "sticker shock" gets you, you can always order the Y-DNA12 and upgrade later. Our project receives discounted pricing for these tests, so please join the project before you ordere yoru test to receive this discount.
