The Swedish DNA Project - Sverigeprojektet
This is a geographical project for people with known Swedish ancestry, either through the paternal line (Y-DNA test), the maternal line(mt-DNA test), or other ancestors within ten generations (Family Illumina Omni platform).

Detta är ett DNA-projekt för personer med ett känt släktskap med Sverige antingen genom ett fäderneärvt Y-DNA-test eller ett möderne mt-DNA-test samt även då ett autosomalt (Family Finder) test på hela anträdet visar släktskap tillbaka max tio generationer.

How to join if you have already tested with FTDNA or other Genographic project
1. log in to your FTDNA account with your kit number and password
2. click “my FTDNA home”
3. click “join project”
4. write Sweden in the search field
5. click the highlighted project name “Sweden”
6. click “request to join” at the bottom of the page, with an additional comment on your direct paternal/maternal line

Ancestry Information
It is very important that all members of the project fill in as much detailed information as possible about their ancestral background
There are a few places in MyAccount where you need to fill in information about ancestry.

Most Distant Ancestors: country of origin for direct paternal and maternal lines.

Most Distant Ancestors: name, dates, and place for earliest known ancestor or direct paternal and maternal lines—and, if you do the Illumina Omni plataform,, also all known ancestral surnames, i.e. all lines.

Most Distant Ancestors: Plot Ancestral Locations: name and place for earliest know ancestor of direct paternal and maternal lines.

GEDCOM/Family Tree: We also encourage you to upload a Gedcom file with your family tree with as much information as possible, in order to provide possible links to other users who are genetic matches.
Paternal and Maternal line. Your direct paternal line ( your father’s, father’s, father, etc.)should originate in Sweden for your results to be listed in the Sweden project. The same goes for your maternal line (mother’s mother’s mother, etc.) If either of these lines are not listed with“country=Sweden”,then the non-Sweden line will not be listed in the overview shown on the project homepage., Please log in to your account and go to “Contact Information” (to the left of my FTDNA home page and pick the country of origin for the non-Sweden direct line. If you leave it as “unknown” origin”,make sure you state why in the field for Most Common Known Ancestor. Then go to “User Preferences”—Most Distant Known Ancestor, and fill in the name, years, place, county and country for your direct paternal and maternal ancestors. Give us as much detailed information as possible.

for recent ancestors (like the above) you may wish to retain your anonymity. If you find any of this complicated please contact the Group Administrator stating that you need help to fill in this information.
There are some of you who have both paternal and maternal lines from countries and cultures other than Sweden. Unless you have other Swedish ancestry (fill in ancestral surnames) and order an Illumina Omni platform test to check this out, you are not within the scope of the project. If you want to have your data compared to people with Swedish ancestry nevertheless, adjust your setting to include All FTDNA users instead of limited to a project. Then your tests will be compared to the complete FTDNA database.

Det är viktigt att alla medlemmar i projektet fyller i så mycket detaljerad information som möjligt om sina anors härkomst. Det finns några platser under My Account där du behöver fylla i information om dina anors ursprung.
- Most Distant Ancestors: Ursprungsland för dina fäderne och möderne anor.
- Most Distant Ancestors: Namn, datum och plats för den äldsta kända fäderne och möderneanan och ifall du tagit en Family finder-test alla kända efternamn på dina anor (exkl son-namn)
- Most Distant Ancestors: Lägg in koordinater för den äldsta kända fäderne och möderneanan på kartan.
- GEDCOM/Family Tree: Vi vill även uppmana alla medlemmar att ladda upp en s k Gedcom-fil med sin antavla med så mycket information som möjligt. Detta för att öka chanserna att genetiska matchningar ska kunna identifiera er gemensamma ana.
Med den äldsta kända fäderne och möderneanan menas den farfars farfars ff ff ff far som är tidigast kända genom vanlig kyrkoboksforskning och likaså för mormors mm mm mm mor. För att få vara med i Sverigeprojektet skall dessa ha svenskt ursprung. Ange gärna en större närliggande plats för att det skall vara lätt att identifiera födelseplatsen.

The Swedish Haplogroup Database - Svenska Haplogruppdatabasen
The Swedish DNA Project is working together with the Swedish Haplogroup Database (SHD) to help genetic family research in Sweden. If your most distant paternal or maternal ancestor is from Sweden, we would very much like you to add this pedigree to the database. When the database grows you will have the chance to find your ancestors' haplogroups, not only your straight paternal or maternal haplogroups but anywhere in your family tree, thanks to other people contributing to the database. The service is free of charge, and does not include any sensitive material.

Vi vill gärna att alla medlemmar som testar sitt Y-DNA och mtDNA deltar med sitt resultat i Svenska Haplogruppdatabasen (SHD), för ett ökat utbyte och nytta för släktforskningen. SHD drivs ideellt och är obunden. Om din äldsta raka fäderne- eller möderneana levde i Sverige vore det mycket bra om vi fick med dessa anlinjer i SHD. När databasen växer får du då chansen hitta inte bara dina raka anlinjers haplogrupper utan varsomhelst i antavlan, tack vare andra som bidragit till databasen. Uppgifter yngre än 100 år är skyddade från att visas, och du kan endast kontaktas via ett anonymt formulär på sidan.

Tracing Your Ancestors in Sweden: Internet sources for tracing Swedish ancestors in original records (such as church books) include (all require a subscription fee, see Online Resources below for links)
1 Genline, with black and white images. They are now part of ancestry.com.
2 Arkivdigital, with color photos of all church books and also many other sources.
3 SVAR, the Swedish National Archives web site with many different sources.
If you are in Sweden you can visit one of the nine regional archives to view microfilm of church records. In the United States the Family History Centers will help you get microfilm. The Swenson Center at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, in addition to microfilm, has records of Swedish-American organizations and newspapers. "Your Swedish Roots " (Ancestry) by Per Clemensson and Kjell Andersson, and "Cradled in Sweden" (Everton Pub.) by Carl Erik Johansson are good sources for starting and organizing an ancestry search.

Genealogiska hjälpmedel och böcker
Sveriges namnskick under äldre tid med son och dotternamn medför att forskningen på fädernesidan oftast inte kan följas på ett bestämt släktnamn. Skulle du ha ett ovanligt släktnamn kan olika publicerade släktkalendrar vara till god hjälp liksom biografiskt lexikon eller adelns ättartavlor.
För att kunna släktforska i kyrkobokföringens originalkällor finns tre olika avgiftsbelagda tjänster.
1 Genline, med svartvita fotografier. De har numera ett samarbete med ancestry.com
2 Arkivdigital, som fotograferat alla kyrkböcker i färg
3 Svar, som är Riksarkivets motsvarighet till Genline. De har även ett stort bestånd av mikrofilm.
