Project Background:
This global DNA project welcomes all SUTTON family members regardless of the numerous spellings (e.g SUTTON, SITTON, SITTEN, SUTTEN, SEUTON, SEUTEN, SETTUNE, SUTTUNE, de SUTTONE etc). This Project also includes SUTTON-DE SOTTO-DUDLEY lines including the additional
surnames: de NEUVILLE, DUDLEY, MANNERS, MONTAGUE, NEVILLE and TEUTON.

The Sutton name is English: habitational name from any of the extremely numerous places called Sutton, from Old English suð ‘south’ + tun ‘enclosure’, ‘settlement’.

The most common DNA tests for genealogy are:

**Y-DNA is for your paternal line - your father, his father, his father's father etc on up the male line. Only a male can Y-DNA test. YDNA12 markers is more for anthropology; DNA matches can be long before surnames came into existance. But you can upgrade later to more markers. Y-DNA25 is "so-so" but you can upgrade later. Y-DNA37 markers is very, very good since it brings DNA matches much closer in time. And, Y-DNA67 markers is the top of the ine.
**mtDNA is for your maternal line - your mother, her mother, her mother's mother etc on up the female line. mtDNA is for low-resolution; mtDNAPlus is for high-resolution.

-Feb2007: FTDNA has opened a multi-lingual office in Zurich aimed at gaining more overseas participants into the DNA Projects. This branch, iGENEA, offers customer support and news in Spanish, French, Italian, German and English, while providing local shipping and payment in common European currencies. In addition, the German DNA-Fingerprint merge with FTDNA, is complete. Thomas Krahn, DNA-Fingerprint owner/scientist, has officially moved to Houston and the new joint laboratory is up and running full steam!
