Spence FamilyTreeDNA Project Website
Group Administrator: SPENCETOP@hotmail.com

Project Surnames:
SpenceSpensSpintz

Project Background:
The members of the Spence and Spence-Bluford mailing lists at Rootsweb have joined into a joint effort to try to find Spence ancestors in common. The dna study is open to all direct line male descendants of a Spence/Spens/Spense anywhere in the world. The 25 marker test is preferred, but a 12 marker test is beneficial.

We have 2 analysis pages. Please visit both.
For a detailed analysis by Andrew, cut and paste the following address:

http://users.skynet.be/lancaster/Analysis%20Spence%20DNA%20project%20results.htm

For just a basic analysis on 12 markers only, visit Carolyn's page:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~willspnc/spence/dnatables.htm

Project Goals:
To determine relationships between the many Spence families. We invite all Spence branches to participate.

Project News:
We have a generous donation to the next two new participants-who have a documented Scottish lineage- of $30 off the price of testing! Email the administrator for details.

We need everyone to participate and if you can't test, please consider financially helping those who want to test, but lack funds, by sending a contribution to the Spence general fund. Whatever you can spare is so much appreciated! Together, this project can help every Spence pursue their lineage. Just click on the link on the left to contribute to the fund and specify the money goes to the SPENCE surname project. Thanking you in advance!

Project Results:
We have 2 common British Isles haplogroups, "I" and "R1b" among our participants.

We also have our first participant with a documented lineage from 1738 in Newburgh, County Fife, Scotland!

As of 23 January 2006, we have a second participant with a documented lineage from County Fife!

DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members

* Haplogroups in green have been confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider ordering a SNP confirmation test.
