R2-M124-WTY (Walk Through the Y) Project- Background

Background

The goal of the Walk Through the Y project is to discover new SNPs in different haplogroups. Several members of a haplogroup (such as R2) would sign up and a region of their Y chromosomes would be sequenced completely. New SNP discoveries help in subdividing Haplogroups (such as R2) into further branches.

This is an R2-M124-WTY (Walk Through the Y) Project. Any individual with Haplogroup R2 (Y-DNA) is welcome to join. Anyone is welcome to participate in funding this project. Please direct any inquiries about the R2-M124-WTY (Walk Through the Y) Project to me at the above email address.



By joining this project, you agree to give the admin the authority to the following:
1- Add your kit to the R2 Y-Chromosome Haplogroup DNA Project: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/R2
2- Order additional tests or upgrades to your kit (Free of charge).

Phases of the Project:

Phase 1: Participation and Fund Raising
If you have already tested with FTDNA and you belong to R2 Haplogroup, please join this project. Note that participating in the R2-M124-WTY Project is totally free. Just join the project so that your Y-DNA result will be shown in the “Y-DNA Results” page for further analysis. In addition, anyone can participate in funding this project.

Phase 2: The Selection Phase
Once we have enough participants and funds, individuals with promising Y-DNA test results (having distinguishing STR-type markers shared by a good number of others but distinct from the rest of the group) will be selected. The total number of participants will be specified in this stage.

Phase 3: Application for the Walk Through The Y Project
An application for each selected individual (from phase 2) will be submitted to Family Tree DNA. If any of the applications is rejected, another individual will be selected until we reach the total number of participants specified in phase 2. Each individual sample has a cost of $750.00.

Notes: In addition, anyone who wants to fund himself, he is welcome also.
