N1c1 Haplogroup

N1c1 haplogroup (defined by SNP M178+) is widely spread around the Baltic Sea, Volga region, the Urals and Siberia.

The subclade N1c1 (L708+,L1026+,L550-) is most frequent among Finns and in the Volga region. Possible place of origin for L1026+ is westward from the Urals.

Possible place of origin for L708+ is the Urals.

The subclade N1c1 (L550+) is typical for South-Baltic region, Scandinavia, Iberia, British Isles and shows an ancient migration to Europe, as well.

At low frequency (<1%) the haplogroup N1c1 is found in Spain, Portugal, Germany and British Isles.

The branching is phylogenetic markers comparison by Network and Phylip phylogenetic software.

There are 4 main european branches of haplogroup N1c1:

1) North European Branch (L1026+,Z1935+)

2) East European Branch (L708+,L1026+)

3) South-Baltic Branch (L550+,L1025+)

4) Scandinavian II (L550+,L1025-)
