McKee DNA Project- Background

Background

McKee Family Group members trace their  McKee paternal path likely beginning in Ireland  and/or Scotland and going back to the inception of  the use of surnames.  Variations of surname spelling are found and all are welcome.   SNP Haplogroups are making their presence known and serve to further define our original STR haplogroups.

In general, we have lineages via Pennsylvania and several others from unknown ports all along the coast of the New World and several through Canada.   Some went from their British Isles homes to Australia and South Africa, two lines are known from lowland Scotland to England and then on to Tasmania.    Many have known connections back to Ireland in Counties Tyrone, Cavan, and Donegal and others.  Our first proven Scotland descendant joined us in 2011 and is  R-M222.

Terry Barton of  WorldFamilies.net has generously accepted our FTDNA McKee Group results as a viable part of his organization.   Those with DNA results by other companies can compare with our results at WFN and see how they fit into the group.      Working with Terry and his staff  you  can   add your   yDNA  results from another  yDNA testing company and join the WFN McKee Group.  We welcome all new members there as well as here on our Family Tree DNA site.
