Main Y- Chromosome DNA Surname Project
Group Administrator: Cherl Fitzpatrick maingirl56@yahoo.com
Group Co-Administrator: Mac Main mmmain@mac.com

Project Surnames:
MainMaineMainesMains
ManeManesMayneMeans

Project Goals:
The goal of the Main Surname Project is to distinguish between Main ancestral lines, not just in the United States,
but worldwide. Any reasonable spelling variant is included: Maine/Mane/Mayne/ with or without an "s" at the end of the name.

Samples from descendants of Phillip Main/Means of PA and George Main/Mehn of Maryland are desired as well as those
for MAIN lines arriving in the US from Ireland, Scotland, England and Canada during the early to mid 1800s. Descendants
of the first Ezekiel Main/Maine of Stonington, Connecticut are especially encouraged to participate in this study.
Scroll down to see the results so far.

Project News:
Seven of 22 participants (31.8%) are descendants of the first Ezekiel Main of Stonington CT.

Some believe the suspected father of Ezekiel Main of CT was born about 1614 in Hatherleigh, Devonshire, England.
Our participant #83983 can trace his line to the same general area and time frame so we had hopes we would have a match.
The results are back and were not even close. His Mayne line from England in the 1600s is shown at:
http://wateroakhill.com/gene/mayne/directory.html

Project Results:
Finally, after almost three years, the project co-administrators have gotten "proof" that their MAIN ancestors DO
TRACE BACK to Stonington CT. Now the challenge will be to encourage more participation to try and expand our
understanding of the Ezekiel Main of Connecticut line as well as other Main/Maine/Mayne lines.

A second grouping has appeared and we welcome these Southerners.

DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members

* Haplogroups in green have been confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. if a – is in the HAPLO field then we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider ordering a SNP confirmation test.
