Background

This project was established to reconstruct the early families of Hatteras and Okracoke islands. Many families have oral histories of their ancestors being Native American and this reconstruction project should be able to confirm or dispell that myth. If your paternal (surname) line ancestors were not from Hatteras or Ocracoke Islands or elsewhere on the outer banks, you do not qualify for this project. Perhaps the Hatteras Mothers or Hatteras Family Finder projects are better suited to your needs.
