My initial short term goals are to see if the following families from Mardorf, Homberg (Ohm) and Angenrod are related. Many of their offspring immigrated to the US, particularly New York and Cleveland. There are inter-connections between each of these families that have encouraged me to research all of these various families. One fact that seems to suggest a connection, is that most of these families have links to the town of Homberg (Ohm) which is about 4 miles from Mardorf and 4 miles from Rülfenrod, where my GG grandmother Sara HAAS lived.
My personal goal is much more complex. I do not know the name of my GG Grandmother's parents. But I believe that the DNA of the Homberg an der Ohm HAAS will also be the DNA of Sara's father. As I have already tested the dna for my family and many of the other families that married Billsteins, I am also hoping that the HAAS DNA may match one of these other lines. As second cousin marriages were the norm among these closely knit Jewish families, such a match would lend further verification that I have properly identified her line. My hunch is that her father was one of the sons of Baruch David ben Löw by his second marriage, as she named her first son Baruch and this name does not exist in other lines of my Billstein family. Additionally, one of her daughters was married in Homberg (Ohm) and many of her children immigrated to Cleveland where there are several indirect connections to the HAYS of Angenrod.
I would also like to include members from the old Haas family of Frankfurt a Main. In the 350 year history of the Frankfurt Judengasse they were probably the most important famiy. Their family tree begins with Meier Grotwohl of Worms in 1450 and includes extensive family branches including; Schuh, Kann, Stern, Steible and Beer. Given the close proximity of these communities and the fact that both the Haas of Mardorf and the Kanns of Frankfurt were court Jews who were closely connected with the electors of Mainz, there well may be a connection between these families.
Here are the first few generations of each of these linestracing only the direct line "Y" males. However, AT LEAST one living male from each line hasbeen identified.
Baruch David ben Löw moved from Nidda to Mardorf in 1714. His offspring chose the surnames; HAAS, MAAS, BARUCH, BUDINGER, KAISER & LION.
