This project was started like most, with a brick wall I couldn't get past. The brick wall in this case is when and where in Ireland was my ancestor Robert McCreary, Sr. born and who were his parents?

Having exhausted the available resources here and in Ireland, I was prepared to stop researching my McCreary line and let it end with Robert's approximate arrival in South Carolina about 1764.

Then I heard about DNA testing for genealogy purposes. I was skeptical and had the usual fears about loss of privacy and questions about reliability, but when I saw the results when compared to the paper trails of the researchers working on another of my family lines, I was amazed. I am now convinced DNA technology is the the most important tool we genealogists have at our disposal.
