BACKGROUND: The Czech DNA Project was launched in late 2001 as part of a study designed to see if specific patterns emerge from correlating Czech surnames with Czech villages. It has since been expanded to include genealogical aspects of DNA testing. The Project is growing leaps and bounds with a current count of over 400 participants! The Project welcomes all persons who can trace their origins to what is now known as the Czech Republic. Genealogy data of your Czech family is required to participate in this study.  This project has a built-in discount for DNA testing.

Feb2007: FTDNA opened a multi-lingual office, iGENEA (www.igenea.com), that provides customer support and news in Spanish, French, Italian, German and English, while providing local shipping and payment in common European currencies. In addition, the German DNA-Fingerprint merged with FTDNA.  Thomas Krahn, DNA-Fingerprint owner/scientist, moved to Houston where the joint laboratory is located.

The three primary tests for genealogy are Family Finder which can provide distant relationships including helping adoptees find their roots, Y-DNA for your direct paternal line, and mtDNA for your direct maternal line:

**Family Finder Tests 563,800 autosomal SNPs and 15,789 X chromosome SNPs. Both male and female can take this test which provides distant relationships.
**Y-DNA is for your straight paternal line - your father, his father, his father's father etc on up the male line. Only a male can Y-DNA test.

        Y-DNA12 markers is more for anthropology; DNA matches can be long before surnames came into existance. But, you can upgrade later to more markers.

        Y-DNA37 markers is very, very good since it brings DNA matches much closer in time.

            And, even better is Y-DNA67 markers.

              The latest and greatest is Y-DNA111 markers.

                **mtDNA is for your straight maternal line - your mother, her mother, her mother's mother etc on up the female line. mtDNA is for low-resolution;

        mtDNAPlus is for high-resolution.

        Genetic matches with a Full Gnome Sequence (FGS aka mtDNA Mega) test are definite relatives. Both a female and male can test for their maternal line

DNA testing for genealogy is nothing more than a couple good swabs of saliva from inside the cheek in the privacy of your own home. To see a sample DNA kit visit: http://www.familytreedna.com/kit/html

To order your DNA Kit with a built-in discount over the normal pricing: at the top of the page just click on JOIN REQUEST. Then just fill in the order form. Make sure the test(s) you are ordering appears in the little window at the bottom of the order form. Credit Card payment is the most expeditious and is secure. 2. „íslo na zkumavce by melo odpovídat císlu na Formulári a na plastikovém sácku. 3. Použijte druhou sterku a zkumavku oznacenou císlem sady a písmenem B. 8. Vložte plastikový sácek a formulár do obálky oznacené zpátecní adresou. Obálku zašlete na adresu Family Tree DNA; použijte US Poštu (poštovné v US stojí 49 centu).
