The Acuña DNA Project was launched on September 22, 2009. This is a genetic genealogy project established for all those of the diverse Acuña lineages. It is international in scope and thus open to those bear the surname -or any of its recognized variants.

Those who bear the surname (and its variants) can be found throughout Western Europe, Asia (specifically, the Philippines) and the Americas. Many prominent historical figures -ranging from high clergy and military figures to viceroys and governors- have belonged to Acuña lineages.
