About us
The Western NC Mountains mtDNA Group has been created in an effort to examine the interrelation of maternal lines throughout the Western NC Mountainous region and to help answer that elusive "where did I come from" question shared by many.
Anyone with maternal ancestry located in North Carolina west of present interstate 85 (south of Greensboro) and west of US 158 (north of Greensboro) might consider participation. Those from bordering counties in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia are also welcome to participate. This is the area that encompasses much of the southern Appalachian mountains and the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.
