About us

The Sewells branched from at least two sources in the early history of what is now the USA. One was in the northeast, Massachusetts, and the other Virginia. Henry Sewell arrived in now modern-day Norfolk, Virginia in the early 1600's. That branch took brief turn northward to Maryland and Massachusetts, and then south to Virginia and beyond. Another line was a Thomas Sowell who came to Jamestown Virginia on April 29, 1619 on the Ship George (the same ship that Pocahontas died on two years earlier on the Thames River in England) who's descendants traveled from Sewell's Point Virginia, to North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, and Florida. The goal of this website is to attempt to identify any genetic links between the various "Sewell lines" in North America and, where possible, determine paper links to England, Scotland, Wales, France, and Normandy. The intent is to allow access to any interested parties on our findings.
