Although not common, worldwide  there are many persons with the surname RAAP of a variant.

There are two major branches in the Netherlands: the  descendants of Adriaen Pietersz Raap (b. Vlaardingen 1556 - d. Amsterdam 1647) – the Amsterdam connection – and the descendants of  Adrianus Floris Raap (b. 1709 –d. 1797 Leeuwarden) – the Frisian connection.  It has always been suggested that both branches are related and this close relationship has now been confirmed by DNA-tests, though proof in writing is still lacking.

There are known descendants in France, Italy (Rap), Spain (Rap), Australia, USA/Canada (Raap or Rapp).
