J1-L817 project is an affiliate of J1 Y-DNA project.

If the Y-DNA haplogroup on your FamilyTreeDNA profile homepage is J-M267 / J-L136 / J-P58 / J-Z1878 and the value of your Y-STR marker DYS392 (see myDNA > Y-DNA > Y-STR results page) is at or above 13, one can tell with nearly 100% probability that you belong to the J-L817 clade (branch) of the above-mentioned haplogroup lineage.

The common ancestor of J-L817 lived ~250 generations ago (~6000 BC). A majority of currently known J-L817 persons belong to J-L816 subclade, which originated ~38 generations ago (8th century AD).

Persons with J-M267 / J-L136 / J-P58 / J-Z1878 and DYS392 >= 13 who join the main J1 Y-DNA haplogroup project will be transferred to this group.
