HENRY GETZ/GATES FAMILY Some of the Gates in America are descendants of an immigrant named Martin Getz, born 21 May 1724 in Erbach, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany and who died in Lane, PA in 1800. He landed in Philadelphia, PA in 1749 at age 25 on the ship Chesterfield. Most of his descendants here anglicized the name to Gates, to include his son, and my ancestor, Henry Getz/Gates, the founder of Gatesburg, PA., near State College, PA.
