This project, in its broadest sense, aims to find out just which Gallegos lines are connected and what is the ethnic origin of these lines.

This project, which is open to all people with the surname Gallegos, mainly focuses on the New Mexico Gallegos branch.

According to the latest genealogical research in New Mexico on the Gallegos family, the earliest progenitor is a Luis Gallegos de Terrazas.

Luis Gallegos de Terrazas was born circa 1570. He was from Durango, Mexico. He was a freighter married to a Pascuala de Rueda.

His son, Afz. Diego Gallegos, was born around 1600. He who was married to a Catalina de Rivera. Afz. Diego Gallegos worked as a cattleman and silver miner in the Parral area of Mexico. He had two brothers - Antonio Gallegos and Juan Burruel de Luna.

Afz. Diego Gallegos had two sons - Jose Gallegos and Antonio Gallegos. These two brothers came to New Mexico around 1675. There descendants are the Gallegos of New Mexico.
