About us

23 Jul 2003: Frantz Surname YDNA Project launched with receipt of first Frantz sample to be analyzed.
31 Dec 2007: It has been confirmed by testing to date that not all the Frantz clans in the USA are related via the direct male line. It has also been confirmed via testing numerous descendants of the Lehigh County PA Frantz clan, that their ancestral haplotype has been verified and it is in haplogroup R1b, the most common haplogroup in western Europe.
12 Feb 2008: YDNA test results received for the 2nd male descendant of Heinrich Frantz of Monroe Co PA. This distant cousin of the first person tested in that clan closely matched the first person in that clan tested. Thus that clan's haplotype and haplogroup has been verified and they are in haplogroup I2b. A very different group than the Lehigh Co PA clan. This group is thus not related to the R1b haplogroup clan of Lehigh Co PA for at least the last approximately 10,000 years. All previously paper trail research linking these two male line clans in the USA or in Europe is thus incorrect. There is no biological direct male line link between these two clans, i.e., the Lehigh Co PA clan and the Monroe Co PA clan are not Y-DNA related. There are also several other unrelated Frantz clans, per the Y-DNA testing, in the USA too. Thus all paper trail research on the various Frantz clans needs to be re-evaluated in regards to this new scientific information as to who is related to whom and who is not related to whom. Further testing will continue to further detail and refine the information regarding the various Frantz clans in the USA. In addition, testing of Frantz males in Europe is desired and Frantz researchers should seek out and attempt to get Frantz males in Europe tested in the Schalbach and Diedendorf areas.

See the Y-DNA Results tab in this project for details.
