About us

5/30/06 Project started

6/1/06 First member joined

7/3/06 First kit received back from member

8/3/06 First lab results received.

8/16/06 the "Dublin" (LEWIS) branch, the main "Poughkeepsie" branch (descendents of Leib and Tsinne of Amdur), and the "St. Paul" branch of Efrons are all connected!

8/29/06 Restults from the HEFFRON branch, settled primarily in Boston, with deep roots in Amdur, are in. Not a match to the other three initially tested branches.

10/6/06 Three additional kits have now been returned to Family Tree DNA. These additional project members are descended from:

1. One of the large Efron families with origins in the town of Ivenets. He is believed to be related to the Soloveitchik rabbinic family and movie director Nora Ephron

2. The branch of Efrons who settled in Aiken, South Carolina by way of St. Louis, Missouri

3. Another of the Efron branches with early 1700s origins in the town of Ivenets. In this case, the sub-branch that settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Believed to be related to Sergei Efron, one of Lenin's earliest victims, he was the husband of the iconic Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva.

10/27/06 The results of the Aiken, South Carolina family are in (number 2, immediately above). No match to any of the four previous results. Stay tuned. Hoping that additional members will match to this branch.

11/10/06 The results of one of the Ivenets branches are in (the Nora/Solveitchik branch, if you will -- number 1, above). The markers are very close to that of the Boston Heffron branch. See 1/4/07 entry below.

11/30/06 Results are in for Rabbi Noah of Cedar Rapids' branch. No connection to any other branch at this time. Likely to connect to other branches that emmigrated to the US.

1/2/07 New Kit ordered by Efron branch from Puchovichi/Dukora. Likely to match up with one of the branches already tested, I think.

1/4/07 Additional markers testing on the Heffron and Ivenets branches ordered.

1/4/07 Fourteen additional Efrons from across the U.S. have been sent emails, asking them to join the project.
