Welcome to the Derry surname project! Y-DNA testing is a great way to further your research and to verify or discredit the crumbs of a paper trail. For many of us, family or public records no longer exist. Our only means to locating distant cousins and the original country is through Y-DNA.

The Derry project is open to all who are interested in finding their heritage through DNA testing. A surname project traces members of a family that share a common surname. All variant spellings are welcome. If your surname is missing, please contact the group administrator and your surname will be added.

Originally this project was established in April 2005 as a means to determine which of the Derrys was married to Mary Old Moll, fortune teller of the American Revolution. In Aug. 2008 we have learned there are at least 3 haplogroups with differing lineages. We have become linked to the Derry project on worldfamilies.net with a Derry website, discussion forum, and where we can compare our DNA results and pedigrees. DNA results will be posted with FTDNA kit no., not your name.
