About us

Any male with the surname Darbison, Darbyson or varient, is invited to join the Darbison DNA Testing Project. Anybody can sponsor a male Darbison/ Darbyson. Has to be a male donor, since this DNA Testing project is primarily for testing the yDNA which is passed from father to son(s) virtually unchanged over the eons.

To join this yDNA Testing Project, click onto the icon at the top "Request to Join This Group" and fill in your info. It is recommended to select as a minimum the yDNA 25 marker test which will prove kinship to matched male donors. The 12 marker test only proves "non" kinship. This is primarily a yDNA testing project involving males born with the surname Darbison/ Darbyson or other spelling variations.

The Darbison DNA testing project was begun March 17, 2006 and will continue as long as descendants are interested.

ABOUT DNA TESTING: Genealogical/ family research now has a new tool, DNA testing. Such tests involve either male or female DNA: males can be tested for yDNA (male line)and females & males for mtDNA (female line). Genealogy traces surnames, so any female/ male mtDNA testing doesn't help, since women do not retain their surnames after marriage. The mtDNA test results only show the ancient ethnic origins of the mother/ grandmother/ great gmother, etc.. line.

The Darbison DNA testing project is primarily of yDNA of male donors born with the surnames of Darbison/ Darbyson and other spelling variations. The DNA of the Y choromosome is passed from father to son(s) virtually unchanged over the eons. So it follows when two or more living male donors with the same or similar surname match yDNA test results, it is proof positive they descended from a common ancestor. The ancestor's name is not given, but the lab can predict how far back in time he lived according to the closeness of the match. The two or more matching lines can then compare research notes and zero in on the common ancestor. The testing project is therefore limited to male donors who were born with the surname Darbison/ Darbyson or other spelling variations. Specifically, only certain markers which pertain to inheritance are tested. You can choose the number of markers you want tested: 12, 25, 37 or 67. We recommend the 25 marker paternal test, tho, since it takes that many markers to prove kinship. This DNA testing is much simpler than Police or Health DNA testing and is therefore cheaper. Your privacy is guaranteed.

DNA samples are from brushing inside your cheek with swabs, like brushing your teeth. Simple and painless. Any male born with the surname Darbison, Darbyson or other spelling variations is invited to join. Anybody can sponsor a male born with the surname Darbison, Darbyson or other spelling variations. Sponsor is defined as allowing the use of your email to receive or send email messages with the Group Administrator and/or the lab regarding test progress and results. The sponsor/ donor is also responsible for payment of the costs for testing. As of April 2006, costs for the 25 marker test are $148 plus $2 mailing fees for the DNA kit.

GROUP ADMINISTRATOR: William "Bill" Morrow is the Darbison Group Administrator. His wife's mother was born a Darbison, hence the interest. You can email Bill using the above email address.
