Four important ways to get the most out of your test results:
1. Go into your FTDNA page. Under your account, choose the genealogy tab. Click on the EARLIEST KNOWN ANCESTORS tab. Fill in your earliest known ancestor with dates and places. CORRECT THIS DESCRIPTION as you learn more over the years. This is very important for cousins, even outside our group, to get in touch with the admins so that we can ask if you want to correspond with them. It can lead to new finds for you.
2. Keep your email up-to-date so new information from admins or cousins can get to you.
3. Choose as many YES' to the privacy questions as you feel comfortable with. All no's mean the administrators or other cousins really can't help you with your puzzles.
4. Write the admins when you have questions. We might take a bit of time to get back to you, but we absolutely want to help. Linda Coate, admin and Veronica Williams, co-admin.
Additional ways to get involved besides corresponding with your cousins and/or the admins include the following.
We are providing a display of our member's trees. Every Coat/e/s member is invited to add to it by sending us a summary of your genealogically PROVEN ancestors in the following format to ancestrees@gmail.com. These trees will be need tweaked some of the time from the knowledge gleaned from updated test results. Members who had previously provided their pedigree in this general format are already included on our new page. It's available at https://ancestrees.com/histories/coatsfamilytrees.html
