Description
Welcome to the CARLISLE/CARLILE/CARLYLE Surname DNA Project. We are seeking CARLISLES (of any reasonable variant spelling) from anywhere in the world to join our project. The group currently includes members with the spellings CARLILL, CURLILE, and LYLES. There is also a LYLES/LILES project, but we have had at least 2 cross-matches between Carlisles and Lyles.
DNA analysis complements our conventional paper research. Y-DNA can be used to rule out relationships between people of the same surname who lived in geographic proximity. It can identify which people of a common surname have a common ancestor. We will build a database to sort and link various CARLISLE lines.
To participate you need to find a living male CARLISLE relative willing to provide a simple, painless cheek-rubbing sample; and to send a pedigree or basic genealogical information on your Carlisle family to the project administrator at
SCarlislebranam@hotmail.com
To join, use the order form below to obtain your test kit. If you already have an active test kit at FTDNA, you do not need to use this page to join. Instead, use the 'join' button on your personal page to join the project. There is no additional cost involved with joining projects. If you have tested through National Geographic, you may still be able to transfer your kit to FTDNA in order to join projects.
Thank you in advance for you participation in building a CARLISLE DNA database.
When joining, please send basic pedigree information to the project coordinator, including the name and vital stats of your earliest known male Carlisle ancestor, even if it is only your grandfather. If your name is not Carlisle and you are joining due to an adoption, an unexpected match to Carlisle males, or other unusual circumstances, please provide that information to the project administrator.

Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
