Description
The Herr Family DNA Program was started in March 2007 for the purpose of identifying the relationship of the different Herr families in the USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, and around the world. We invite each and every Herr and Herr descendant to participate in this program so we can clarify our family relationships more precisely.
We have several different families in the project:
The Pennsylvania Herr branch descend from Hans Herr, a Mennonite Anabaptist Elder who fled Switzerland and led his followers through the Palatinate and to Lancaster PA about 1710. You can find more on Hans Herr and his Lancaster County, Pennsylvania community through the web site of the Hans Herr House and Museum: https://hansherr.org/
The Michigan Herr descend from Fidelius Herr, who emigrated from Oensbach Baden to Nankin Township, Wayne County, Michigan in 1831. You can find more information on Rodger's Oensbach Herr family web page at www.oensbachherr.com or write him at Rodger@aol.com
Fidelius Herr's grandfather Markus Herr and Hans Herr were contemporaries who lived a mere 15 miles from each other in Germany about 1715.
A third Herr branch descended from Johanne Herr, who emigrated from Saxe Goethe to the Flint Michigan area in 1851.
The origin and connection of other Herr branches remain to be discovered.
Other families in the project have similar names: Hair, Hare, and Heer.
If you have any questions or want further information, please check out the project blog:

Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
