Description
FTDNA Clan Donald (USA) DNA Project – Joining Information
We welcome anyone with an interest in the history and genetic heritage of Clan Donald. To help us better understand your connection, please confirm the following about the testee (the person whose DNA kit is being submitted):
Getting Started
☐ The testee has completed, or has ordered, a Y-DNA test through Family Tree DNA
(A kit number from any Family Tree DNA Family Finder test is enough to join—Y-DNA results can come later.)
Connection to Clan Donald (any one of the following)
Please select any that apply:
☐ The testee has a MacDonald-variant surname (e.g., MacDonald, McDonald, MacDonnell, McDonnell)
☐ The testee has reason to believe their direct paternal line traces to the historic Clan Donald regions (western Highlands and Isles of Scotland, or parts of Ireland) and may be associated with a Clan Donald branch or subgroup
☐ The testee is a member of a Clan Donald society (e.g., Clan Donald USA or an affiliated organization)
☐ The testee’s DNA results suggest a possible connection (including those with haplogroup R1a / R-M198 or similar profiles)
About the Project
☐ I understand that this project focuses on paternal-line (Y-DNA) ancestry and aims to explore how different family lines may be related, particularly within the historical period 1300–1750
Requirements
A Surname Project traces members of a family that share a common surname. They are of the most interest in cultures where surnames are passed on from father to son like the Y-Chromosome. This project is for males taking a Y-Chromosome DNA (Y-DNA) test. Thus, the individual who tests must be a male who wants to check his direct paternal line (father's father's father's...) with a Y-DNA12, Y-DNA37, Y-DNA67, or Y-DNA111 test and who has one of the surnames listed for the project. Females do not carry their father's Y-DNA. Females who would like to check their father's direct paternal line can have a male relative with his surname order a Y-DNA test. Females can also order an mtDNA test for themselves such as the mtDNAPlus test or the mtFullSequence test and participate in an mtDNA project. Both men and women may take our autosomal Family Finder test to discover recent relationships across all family lines.
