It is hoped with enough participants, a better understanding of the number of distinct Wing families can be determined as well as how if any of the various families are related. In addition, results may be able to identify if the Wing line came from the Danish Viking stock, from the Anglo-Saxon stock, or another stock. It may also be possible to identify other surnames whose DNA is fairly similar to ours. These results will help show our connections to a larger family (in a somewhat similar manner to the clans of Scotland).

Given the complex mixture of haplogroups throughout Europe (even as early as the Bronze Age), it is not currently possible to prove whether our Wing family is from Anglo-Saxon or Viking heritage. However, all of the evidence points towards an Anglo-Saxon origin for our Wing ancestor, rather than a Viking origin.
