About us

Many genealogy researchers of this surname can trace their lineage to the families referenced in “The Genealogical and Encyclopedic History of the Wheeler Family in America," as compiled by The American College of Genealogy, under the direction of Albert Gallatin Wheeler in 1914; and "Wheeler Cousins," as compiled by the family organization Wheeler Cousins in 1984. These massive compiled works, for the most part, are the main research baseline for the Wheeler lineage. However, this compiled research provides limited source citation or documentation to support the identified lineage or guide the researcher to original source records. While many may be satisfied with these secondary sources, the ultimate goal of most genealogy researchers is to prove or verify their family lineage with original or primary source documents. However, the traditional methods of genealogy research may never completely identify or validate the lineage between the various Wheeler family groups.

This Y-DNA Surname Project was initiated for the long-term benefit of Genealogy Researchers of this family surname and any other spelling variant. In addition, the Project will identify the Genetic Genealogy Baseline of the current generation of Male bloodlines and may reveal the “genetic clue” to aid in the evaluation of the traditional family history research. Any Male with the Wheeler surname or other spelling variant is encouraged to participate in this Genetic Genealogy and Family History Research Study, and "Hopefully" unlock the clues to the History of their Family Lineage. Anyone else may participate by obtaining a "swab" DNA sample from a Male relative of these surnames.

If you plan to test Y-DNA, please contact the Group Administrator, identified above, before you join the Project.  I will then send your personal copy of the Y-DNA Project Plan which provides details for participation in this Genetic Genealogy and Family History Research Study.
