About us
We encourage men with variant spellings of the Swaim surname (Swim, Swim, Swem, Sweem, Sweim) to participate in our surname study to determine if they match the Swaim surname men.
We are also hoping to find other Swaim men who do not know their Swaim ancestry to help them determine if they are also Thys Barentsen descendants by participating in our Swaim surname project.
We are trying to identify any of the mutations on a specific marker are passed down specific lines. This might help us to determine how to distinguish the correct family connections of the descendants of John Swaim and Charity Teague and possibly connect either John Swaim of Randolph County, NC or John Swaim of Wilkes County, NC to their correct Swaim fathers.
We would like to find other Van Pelt men, who trace their ancestries back to Teunis Jansen Lanen Van Pelt, or to his brother Mathys Van Pelt, to participate and see if their results match the results of our Van Pelt participant.
A group of researchers are currently attempting to gather as much documentation and original type of evidence as possible, to try to "untangle" the confused and conflicting family lines. We invite all who have information on the Swaim family to please share it with Laraine Clark, group administrator of this project.
