About us

June 2009--We welcome new project participant with spelling of "Shores" today. No listed ancestral lineage at this time.

January 2009--Additional participants with the spelling variation, "Shore", have joined the project this month.

January 2009--We welcome the first project participant with the surname spelling variation of "Shorr". This participant states his origins in Lithuania. This will begin another subgroup.

August 2008--We welcome the first project participant with the surname spelling variation of "Shouse". There is an obvious connection here, as this branch has a genetic distance of "1" compared to one of the other Shores branches in our project.

January 2008--The test results from the Maryland participant posted this month. This is a new Haplogroup to our project--R1b1c, which seems to lean toward the Swiss/German branches, however there were no exact matches with these test results.

November 2007--The test results from the Florida participant posted this month. The results are a perfect match with those participants connected to Reuben Shores descendants--those with confirmed records going back to Ireland/England.

Sept 2007-The test results from the Arizona participant posted this week on this site. The results were a perfect match between the test participant and the two branches of Lander Shores and Jonathan Shores.

May 2007-The test results from the Arkansas participant posted yesterday on this site. The results were a perfect match between the participant and descendants of Jonathan and Philop Shores b. 1794 and 1793 KY. This connects two Shores branch families that had no knowledge of a connection and could eventually provide ancestral lineage for Jonathon and Philop. It is now apparent that this branch was in Virginia in the early 1700's.

May 2007--The test results from the Illinois participant confirms the paper trail reaching back to Philop and Jonathan Shores b. 1793 and 1794 respectively. This is a perfect match with the first Jonathan Shores participant in July of 2005 and resolutely connects the two branches beyond any doubt.

April 2007--Two more participants, one from Arkansas and one from Illinois. The Illinois participant has a paper trail going back to Philop and Jonathan Shores b. 1793 and 1794 respectively in KY. The Arkansas participant has a paper trail reaching back to Lander Shores b. 1760 VA.

February 2007--Another new Shore participant with unknown origins joins the project.

January 2007--Two more participants have joined with paper trail ties to Frederic Schor. Both participants of this branch are confirmed to be in Haplogroup R1b1c.

December 2006--This month we received our first participant with a confirmed paper trail connection to Frederic Schor. His test results are due to be posted in mid February 2007.

December 2006--Today we received the results of a Shores surname participant that landed in the European Haplogroup of R1b1. This is not a Reuben Shores relative, as there is a genetic distance of 4 between this test and the Reuben Shores participants.

December 2006--We have our first possible descendent of Fredrick Shore, this participant joins us via a 37 marker test submission. His known line of descent is from Isaac Shore b. 1810 N.C. Watch for these test results due around the end of February 2007.

October 2006--We have our first perfect match! The recent participant descending from Reuben Shores is in the Haplogroup R1b1 and a perfect match an earlier test participant who until now believed his family to be descended from Jonathan Shores b. 1794 KY.

November 2006--Another y-line test is currently being analyzed as this participant joins us via a 37 marker test submission. His Shores line of descent is unknown at present. Test results are expected to be posted by the middle of January 2007

May 2006--A deep clade test for the first participant in the Jonathan Shores subgroup, indicates a new, more tightly defined geographic region of origin, or Haplogroup. This new Haplogroup definition is I1a. The I1a lineage likely has its roots in northern France. Today it is found most frequently within Viking / Scandinavian populations in northwest Europe and has since spread down into Central and Eastern Europe, where it is found at low frequencies.

January 2006--According to surname analysis ranking in the U.S., the Shores surname is considered "rare", as only one person in 33,333 have the last name. The Shores surname currently ranks #4,237 in popularity within the U.S.
