About us

February 2013. Our newest mystery line, #132289, named Montonna from , has matched the other proven descendants of Dr. Jean Mousnier de la Montagne on all 12 of the first 12 markers. The results of the 37 marker test suggest possible descent from Joseph (abt 1701-1788) Montanye of Morris County, New Jersey.

(See below).

From the other eleven men who have results from the 37 marker tests, we can see some useful patterns. There are three sets of identical results, #19575 and #20449, #23523 & #24637; #17189 and #17665.

VINCENT (1657-1735)  & TEUNIS (1695-1751+): The first set of identical results are from one man descended from Vincent (#19575) and one man believed to be a descendant of Abram's son Teunis (#20449), both showing 37 alleles at DYS#CDYa instead of the more standard 38 alleles.

JOSEPH (abt 1701-1788): There are four descendants of Abram's son Joseph who have been tested. Two results are identical, #23523 from Joseph's son John and #24637 from Joseph's son Isaac, but another man (#33797) believed to be a descendant of Joseph's son Isaac has more in common with our mystery line from , than with these two. While both #33797 and #26737 show 15 instead of 17 alleles at DYS#464c, they are not completely identical either. The fourth descendant of Joseph's son Isaac, #95283, has not been tested beyond the first 12 markers.

EIDE (abt 1699-1784): Two of four descendants of Abram's son Eide show identical results, but all four are distinguished by 20 instead of 19 alleles at marker DYS#458. (See #136183, #104552, #17189, #17665 below). Our newest member, #136183, confirms this characteristic of Eide's descendants. Both descendants of Eide/Edward/Edward whose ancestors went to from the Mohawk Valley of New York have 17 alleles at marker 464d instead of the more usual 18 alleles, which have been retained by the two descendants of Eide/Edward/James who stayed in the . #136183 has a unique mutation, that of 12 instead of 13 alleles at marker DYS#442, but otherwise his results are identical with those of #104552, his fourth cousin.  #17189 and #17665 are third cousins with identical results.

JOHN C. (1823-1890) Test results from #48222 & #26737, great-great-grandsons of John C. Montanye of , show three mutations in the more volatile markers. They do share one mutation, that of 18 alleles at DYS#458. Each one of them shares mutations with other descendants and #48222 has a third (so far) unique mutation.

This group of descendants forms our biggest mystery group.  We have been unable to find the genealogical connection between John C. Montanye and his ancestor, Johannes de la Montagne, so these DNA results are very important in confirming that this branch is part of the DELAMONTAGNE family.
