About us

Of the twenty-one men whose DNA has been tested, thirteen are descendants of Dr. Johannes Mousnier de la Montagne. These thirteen men all share the same results for the first 12 markers.

Eight other men have results that are different for the first 12 markers, thus indicating no close relationship.
#N14766 on the chart below, who spells his name Minton, is descended from an English family of that name. With matches on only 7 of 12 markers, our common ancestor may be as much as 5,000 years back.
#35061 on the chart below, who spells his name Montagne, is of French-Canadian ancestry. With matches on only 7 of 12 markers. our common ancestor may be 5,000 years back.

#142296, whose name is Terry, matches on 8 of 12 markers.  Our common ancestor may have lived more than 3,500 years ago.
#81464 on the chart below, who spells his name Mountney, matches on 9 of 12 markers. Our common ancestor may be no more than 2,000 years back.
#32954 on the chart below, who spells his name Le Monte, matches on 10 of 12 markers. He may have a common ancestor within the last 900 years. His family traditionally has claimed descent from Dr. Johannes de la Montagne, but these DNA results support genealogical research which has been unable to find any connection in .
#42559 on the chart below, who spells his name Montney, matches on only 4 markers. Our common ancestor may have lived as long ago as 10,000 years. This is a BIG surprise, since we had believed that at least some of the Montney and Mountney families were descendants of Dr. Johannes de la Montagne. We have found another Montney,

#N53846, also a descendant of Joseph Montany and Margaret Frank, whose results corroborate those of #42559. With two Montney descendants showing such wide DNA divergence from Montanye descendants, we are forced to conclude that the Montneys are not related to us in historical times.

#204281, whose name is , may come from the Italian family of that name. matches on only 2 markers.  Our common ancestor must have lived in pre-historic times.
