About us

The Pryor Surname Project consists of Pryors who have tested for the Pryor surname and variations of the name in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia (or beyond). More than 60 men have tested for Pryor Y-DNA which is helping to confirm family relationships and reveal new ones. For a greater chance of confirming a match to a Pryor in this project, we ask that you consider testing at 67 markers or higher. We are also encouraging both men and women to transfer AncestryDNA tests to FTDNA. This can be done for a nominal amount and you will have the ability to compare your test against the other Ancestry testers as well as those who have taken both the FTDNA Family Finder test and the FTDNA Y-DNA test, giving you a better opportunity to confirm your Pryor relationships.

"Oh my gosh this IS so freaking exciting!! Wow! WOW! It's so amazing!
My mom is going to freak when she hears this much info.
She has been trying to find more info on our Pryor for years and years and years.
Thank you SOOO much for this!  I can't wait for more. So exciting that there's still more testers."

-- R.B. (commenting on their Pryor's YDNA results)

FTDNA manages a General Fund for projects -- donations are held by FTDNA not the project, nor the administrator. The General Fund for the Pryor project is used for male Y-DNA testing. Donors may contribute to the project's general fund to assist with the cost of future testing. Donors may designate which a specific ancestor the donation is to assist. You do NOT have to designate a specific testing interest when you donate - donations without a specified interest are used for testing at the discretion of the project administrator. If you think you descend from a male line there may be funding available to help defer the cost of testing.

If You Want Assistance from The General Fund

There is general assistance available to defray the cost of Y-DNA testing. If you would like assistance please contact the group administrator. You will be asked to login to complete payment after the funding has been applied by the administrator.
