1. To identify the early origins of family members with the surname Neff and its variations back to the 12th and 13th century.
Our family surname prior to the 12th century is generally not found in earlier available records. The surname NÄF in early Swiss German translates: "ONE WHO LIVES BY THE LAKE aka LAC." In the case of NÄF from Kt. Zürich in Switzerland, this would be a family living along the western shore of Lake Zürich.
2. To verified Y-chromosome DNA signatures of the various identified NÄF, NAEF, NEFF, NAVE, NAFF North American immigrant lines with DNA results of interested surname family members. This project seeks to build on the already extensive Neff Family Historical Society's genealogical data bases compiled since the 1980's with the help of many family researchers and extensive use of PRIMARY Historical, Public and Private Records.
3. To help families identify and/or verify their Neff immigrant lines through DNA matches. Determine relationships of those lines to one another and establish lineages, in particular, for time periods before the existence of records.
4. To make our findings available in a public format accessible by Neffs and interested individuals without any cost or fee.
