**In 2014 the National Society of the Daughters of the Revolution (DAR) began accepting paternal Y-DNA results as as part of the source documentation research package to help prove heritage to a  Revolutionary War Patriot. The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD) also accept DNA for linear proof.
