About us

As of August, 2009, we have eight people in the project, one of whom has not yet returned his DNA kit to the lab yet. Two of the seven others were already known to be related to each other before this project. Two more were able to be connected to these two through the existence of this project (see the "Project News" section for details). This cluster is in haplogroup E1b1b1 and has Ashkenazic Jewish ancestry.

Of the other four people in the project, another one is also in haplogroup E1b1b and has Ashkenazic Jewish ancestry; however, he does not match the other Ganz cluster and his ancestry is from Belarus, not Romania/Hungary.

One project member is in haplogroup T (formerly called haplogroup K) and has ancestry from Ukraine. He too is Ashkenazic Jewish -- and a rabbi, at that.

The final member of the project, thus far, traces his lineage back to Germany and he is in haplogroup I1. His background is not, as far as is known, Jewish. He joined the Ganz DNA project through the National Geographic Genographic project.
