About us
Over the last year substantial progress has been made in Cowan family genealogy via YDNA studies. The principle finds are:
- Flemings "Four Brothers Group" is in fact two separate unrelated lineages. One lineage is for the three Cowan brothers who settled on Pequea Creek in Lancaster County. The other is for descendants/relations of Hugh Cowan who settled about the same time on Octoraro Creek on the Chester/Lancaster Border.
- Hugh Cowan, previously included in Flemings Four Brothers Group, is more closely related to Flemings Cowan's Gap Group. It seems likely that the Cowan's Gap Cowans are descendants of Hugh, or perhaps Robert Cowan who settled near him.
