About us

There are three participants from the very large 'Southern Bickham' line, one participant (Kit 241471) is a descendant of William Bickham, one of the original five brothers who "originated" this extensive line, and two are descendants of Benjamin Bickham, another of the five brothers.  DNA testing frequently results in a big surprise, as is found when comparing the DNA results of these three participants.  We expected the values of the twelve markers to be the same.  They are not.  The values at either Marker 390 or Marker 439 are different for the two descendants of Benjamin Bickham when compared to the descendant of William Bickham.  Also, there are differences in those markers between the two descendants of Benjamin.

The three participants who descend from George Washington Bickham, a son of Hugh Bickham, of Logan County, Ohio, are an exact match of the first 12 markers. The participant who descends from Robert Bickham, the oldest son of Hugh Bickham, is also a match with these three participants.

The two participants who are descendants of Richard Bickham of 1698 Burlington, New Jersey, are not a match with these four participants who descend from Hugh Bickham. There is a difference of three markers, indicating there is not a relationship between Richard Bickham and Hugh Bickham of Logan County, Ohio.

The two participants who are direct descendants of Richard Bickham, of 1698 Burlington, New Jersey, are a match, as expected. Also note the DNA results of these two participants and those of the participant (Kit 157329) who descends from Benjamin Bickham's son Charles Bickham. With only one marker off by two digits, there may be the possibility of a distant shared ancestor.

There is one participant (Kit 749532) whose Bickham ancestors have been traced back to England in the early 1800s. Not a match with any of the earlier participants however the first twelve markers are very similar.
