About us

The project is establishing the various different genetic family groups that comprise those who appear to be of ancient Britons/Celts. At present evidence strongly points to the tribal federation known as Brigantes. In future this group's administrator hopes to shed more light on this aspect of the majority of the project's ancient origins.

There are indicators of yDNA from different genetic groups including the recently found Whiteside and Whitsett who descend from Niall of the Nine Hostages. Niall was fifth century Irish warlord/king who raided the coasts of France and England. His claim to fame was kidnapping a young boy who later became known as St. Patrick. Coincidentally it appears they both (St. Patrick and Niall) died in 450 a.d. It would have been impossible to discover this history in any written record.

We also see participants who could be descended from as a Roman teacher/scholar/explorer (Demitreus) who came from the ancient city of Tarsus (in modern Turkey) in 69 AD to the city of York. They may also be from some of the very early Phoenician/Greek traders who came to Britain for its tin and copper (important for Bronze).
