South African mtDNA Project Website- Background
South African mtDNA
Welcome to the South African mtDNA FTDNA Project Group. If you want a mtDNA test or have already had a mtDNA test, and if you or one of your female ancestors were born in Southern Africa, then you are welcome to join.
The project was started in September 2008. Results are classified by region, as can be found here, for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup
For more information, read the FAQ on Family Tree DNA. There are also a number of useful articles in Wikipedia.
I also recommend the books "Trace your roots with DNA" by Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak and Ann Taylor; and books by Spencer Wells and/or Bryan Sykes (particularly "Seven Daughters Of Eve").
If you have ideas to improve this project, or if you are experienced with mtDNA and wish to join this project as an administrator, please contact the current administrators.
