About us

Failte go Shannon YDNA. Tá an-áthas muid go fheiceann anseo thú. Bain sult as! 'Welcome to Shannon YDNA. We are very pleased to see you here. Enjoy!

There appear to be several sources of SHANNON families. The Scots-Irish tended to come to America in the 1600's and 1700's and were generally Protestant. The Irish came in the mid 1800's and tended to be Catholic. Some Shannon groups came about due to the Civil War. Others were modifications of similar names (Shanahan as example) or due to adoption. Large groups of Shannons also exist in Ireland, Canada and Australia.

Join this Group  Everything you wanted to know about DNA but were afraid to Ask
How to Contribute to the SHANNON group (money to help pay for testing).

WE HAVE AN ADDITIONAL WEBSITE THAT ALLOWS MORE OPTIONS PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING LINK
Shannon Family Tree
The webmaster for the associated site, Donald Shannon, has added a secure area for research. Basically this is an area to place genealogical histories to share with fellow Shannons. If you are able to do a Gedcom file, it is searchable. You have to capacity to alter or change anything you put there but our system does track changes. This means that things that we may have copyright concerns about (or just persons wanting to be sure their work is not used out of context) have a higher degree of confidence than if the materials were posted openly on the web. It also gives you the choice to include or exclude living persons in what you post there.

CAN YOU HELP? Volunteers to help with the various projects (from backup webmaster, to Shannon Veterans (French and Indian War to Iraq/Afganistan) are most welcome.
Contribute information to websites attention Kelly Shannon, webmaster shannon group at family tree dna or Donald Shannon, webmaster at shannon family.org Contribute money to the shannon group to assist with cost of tests.
Help spread the word about the SHANNON DNA project. Please notify all Shannon relatives in your email address book. We want to send out post cards to Shannons in the phone book. Please know the Shannon Group administrators and group participants are volunteers spending our own money and time in pursuit of identification of Shannon history both by DNA and conventional genealogical research.

Please contact us for how you can help.
